Some further practice with 3D Tracking

Image
Breakdown of some basics skills learnt in Autodesk Maya and Matchmover, building on what I've learnt from Esacpe Studio Tutorials and my own headscratching. Tracking live action background shot and placing 3D animated Character in Scene. This is an early attempt to put some practice into tracking some poorly lit / non marked footage before doing more complicated stuff requiring multiple passes and after effects. The video was shot on a Nikon D90 - 1280x720px - to take into account the Camera Sensor being cropped when shooting 16:9 - the Film Back settings in Matchmover worked out as - 23.6 x 13.2mm approx...  the Focal Length was 18mm.

Initial Attempt at 3D Tracking

A rought attempt at Tracking... Using Autodesk Matchmover with some basic footage from a Kodak Playsport to create virtual camera data to take into Maya.  Automatic Tracked...  and then 3D co-ordinates taken from the strongest Tracking Points to align perspective. Quick UFO knocked up in Maya - and some cubes as Shadow Catchers..  Scene Lit by a Directional Light... 'Use-Background' Shader created in Hypershader and applied to the cubes..  Effect of shadow seen in Render. Final Version of Quick Test... Lots of things to do to improve it, but its the beginning!
